(From Eric Coonrod) On Saturday, the EHS scholar's bowl team competed at the 3A State Championships at Wichita Collegiate HS. Team members: Peyton Coonrod, Reygan Coonrod, Andrew Hipp, Aidan Johnson, Jessa Schultz, and Allie Thomasson. The team's pool play record was 2-3, which put us into a tie to advance to finals play. Unfortunately, the loss we had to Caney Valley by one question in Round 1 ended up breaking the tie in favor of CV (who finished 4th place in finals). At the regional and state level, sometimes qualifying comes down to one question or how big you win in your winning rounds. We were in a tough pool, and faced off against eventual state champion Wichita Collegiate in Round 4, and that one was especially tough. It's clear why they've taken first in state more times than not in the last 40 years. Our kids had a good season, and most of them will be back next year, so I'm expecting even bigger things!
