Good evening,
Today, it has come to my attention that confusion has occurred regarding COVID-19 quarantines. USD 327 does not have the statutory power to quarantine anyone. When a positive case is identified, county health notifies the school and the building is asked to perform contact tracing for each case. We will reach out to each student’s family to notify them that their student has been identified as a close contact.
At the elementary level, because classes are self-contained, county health can allow students to undergo a modified quarantine as oppose to a complete quarantine. This allows students to still attend school while monitoring symptoms for the quarantine period.
This is what occurred yesterday. We were informed of positive cases in the district and that students identified as close contacts would need to be placed in either a modified quarantine, or into a full quarantine at home. County health and the school believe that it is best for students to be able to attend in person when able, and so it was decided to implement the modified quarantine. This plan could change as the process is always evolving.
More information from the school and county health will be coming tomorrow.
