Information Regarding Ellsworth
and Ellsworth Elementary School
Ellsworth
is a small town in north central Kansas with a population of approximately
2,600. It is located in a
rural area. Farming,
manufacturing, local business and a correctional institution are the major
sources of employment. Community
involvement and interest are high. The
population is predominantly white.
Ellsworth
Elementary School has an enrollment of around 300 students with thirteen
classrooms including kindergarten through 5th grade.
There are three sections of 3rd grade and two sections of the other
classes.
There is one building administrator, and there are twenty-six
certified staff members and eighteen classified staff members.
Included in the certified staff are four Central Kansas Cooperative
in Education employees, and included in the classified staff are five
Central Kansas Cooperative in Education employees.
Students
attend physical education and music classes every day.
All grades attend library classes once a week; other regularly
scheduled trips to the library are made for the purpose of checking out
books. Computer lab classes
are scheduled by the teacher; all grades attend computer lab at least once
a week; several classes schedule more than one session a week.
Art classes are taught once a week to every grade level.
Title 1 and At Risk help is available to those who qualify and is
provided in the classroom and also on a one on one basis as needed. Students receive assistance and enrichment from the student
support teachers on a daily basis. The
school counselor and school nurse are scheduled to be in the elementary
building every weekday morning.
A
variety of educational opportunities are available for students with
special needs. This includes
special education programs for the learning handicapped as well as speech
therapy and gifted education. An
occupational therapist and a physical therapist see eligible students on a
regular basis.
A
school newsletter is sent out each month to keep parents informed about
events and activities at E.E.S. Special notes are sent home during the month when events
arise that were not covered in the newsletter.
Our site council meets with the school
improvement team as designated.
