Introduction

Learning about all of our 50 states can be a time consuming project for one person.  Working together we can discover all kinds of cool things.

Task

Bookmarks are always popular here at the library. Create a bookmark with interesting facts about one of our 50 states.  We will share your bookmark with the whole school. We want to try to create a bookmark for each state so each of you will do one state.

Here's How To Do It

1. Draw a state from Miss Bainter's jar to see which state you will make a book mark for.

2. Use the worksheet handout to keep notes.

3.  Use at least 2 of the different sources that we have studied to find the information you need.

Try to decide which source would be the best to get each piece of information.  Should you use an ATLAS. an ALMANAC, an ENCYCLOPEDIA, or a BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY.  You will probably need several of these sources.  Don't forget to cite the source your information just in case Miss Bainter asks you to "Prove it".

4.  When you have collect all your information have Miss Bainter check your worksheet.

5.   Our bookmark will have information on both sides so you will need to create two pages with the information that you have collected. Miss Bainter has created a Publisher Template to help you. You will need to open each page and save it in into the folder on the desktop called "Save State Book Marks Here".  Find your class folder and save page 1 as "your first and last name" page 1.

Example: joebrown - page 1.  Do the same for page 2.  joebrown - page 2.

6. Once you have saved your bookmark templates as your name you can start working on them. Fill in the information that you collect. They will look something like this.

How does it look!

Compare you book mark to the evaluation form below.  How do you think you did? If you need to improve it do that now. If you like the way you bookmark turned out let Miss Bainter know that it is ready to print.  She will print it out on neat colored paper and kids can collect them when they come to the library.
