Library Policies

Students are allowed to have a maximum of three books and one magazines out at anytime. The may also check out a book on tape or CD if they have permission from you. Permission slips are available in the library. Teachers may authorize students to have additional materials when needed. Materials are checked out for two weeks. Students are responsible for returning materials on time and in good condition. Students may be fined for damaged or lost materials. No fines are charged for overdue books but in extreme cases disciplinary action may be taken until materials are returned.
Students are expected to deport themselves in the library in a manner that is conducive to reading and study. Inappropriate behavior may result in loss of library privileges.
The library media center welcomes gifts in accordance with district policies. "All gift materials must meet qualitative standards of selection... ". Any items accepted by the library media center will be used in whatever manner is deemed appropriate for the benefit of students.
The parent of any student in the district shall have the right to register a complaint about controversial reading materials or media. Parents are encouraged to discuss the suitability of such materials with their child's teacher, media specialist, and/or the building principal. If a parent wishes to lodge a formal complaint against any material a form is available to request reconsideration of the material. A review committee consisting of the building principal, media specialist, two subject area specialists and two community members will be convened to evaluate the material based on board policy. The library does not loan materials or equipment to organizations for non-school related use.
