 U.S.D. No. 327 Board of Education met in regular session on April 7, 2008.

 BOARD RECOGNITIONS

  • National Honor Society Inductees are:  Billy Canaan, Zach Olson, Gabe Paull, Hayley Keener, Mark Hoffhines, Logan Katzenmeier, Gracie Larsen, Brittney Murrell, Cyleigh Schultz and Mackenzie Cranston.  The event was well organized by Bernie Schulte, Emilie Penner and Julie Nienke.
  • Saraya Penner placed 4th over all and Tasha Bruning placed 6th in their weight class at the 3A state Power Lifting Tournament.
  • Director, David Rankin and 5-12 band students for performance at 2008 Band Jam on March 25th.
  • Mr. Reid, EES staff and PTO for their efforts in organizing their school carnival.
  • Katy Umble’s Kimono was accepted in the Gerry Neustrom Young Artist Challenge Art show in Salina.

 BUSINESS ITEMS

  • The board voted to approve the Neighborhood Revitalization plan as presented by Rob Fillion.
  • The board renewed their membership for KASB for 2008-2009.
  • Mr. Arnhold reported that he and Bob Kepka are seeking bids on a few of the capital outlay items discussed earlier but no information is available yet.
  • The board approved the republished budget for 2007-2008.
  • The board discussed the possibility of a joint city/school board meeting with the purpose of establishing a recreation commission.  Mr. Arnhold will continue to get information, especially in regard to the legal aspects.

FYI

  • Board Attorney, John Sherman, gave the board information on the Smoky Hill Charitable Foundation and then presented the board with a grant for $1,500 to assist in purchase of a projector and screen for the PAC.
  • KASB regional meeting is May 7th

EXECUTIVE SESSION

  • The board approved a contract for Ken Windholz as Athletic Director and part time Physical Education instructor for 2008-2009.
