U.S.D. No. 327 Board of Education met in regular session on March 8, 2010.
BOARD RECOGNITIONS
-
Levi Schneider placed second at the 3-2-1A State Wrestling meet in the 140
pound weight class. Jake Kubick won two matches; John Kubick and Ryan
Canaan also represented Ellsworth at the state tournament. Congratulations
to these wrestlers and their coaches Clint Freeman and Steve Thorburn.

Journalism advisor, Dawnae Bunch had ten students qualify for state
competition. Sadie Kratzer – 1st in Infographic and 2nd
in Newspaper Design; Abby Habiger – 2nd in Cutline Writing;
Cade Cranston – 2nd in Yearbook Copy Writing; Lexi Shepack – 3rd
in Editing; Evan Schade 3rd in Feature Writing and Annie Hysong –
3rd in Photo Illustration. Honorable Mention went to: Brian
Graham in Yearbook Sports Writing; Philip Wolf for Yearbook Sports Writing
and Newspaper Sports Writing; Ashley Habiger in Yearbook Copy Writing and
Nicole Pacey in Academics Photography.

Mallory Rathbun was the recipient of the KMEA Scholarship at the state KMEA
convention. Also selected for state music and receiving recognition for All
State Honor Choir for four years were Michael Harris and Mark Hoffhines.

Congratulations to our EHS students who received the Hanson Scholarships.
Billy Canaan and Zach Olson received the Hansen Scholar of $3,000 renewable
once. Mark Hoffhines, Logan Katzenmeier and Brittany Murrell received the
Hansen Student of $2,000 renewable once. Cyleigh Schultz and Weston Wilson
received the Hansen Vocational Scholar of $2,000. We really appreciate the
generosity of the Hansen Foundation as they assist our students in pursuing
their post-secondary education.

Advisor Amber Sharpe and FFA members for activities during National FFA Week

Congratulations to the EHS Cheerleaders and Coach Zamrzla for earning the
Shining Star Award of Excellence and Sweepstakes Award in the Team Division
category at the Sunflower Cheer and Dance Classic in Concordia. They also
received the Judges Award for Polish and Precision as well as Technique and
Execution.

Congratulations to those receiving I ratings at the middle school music contest
in Russell: the 7/8th grade choir, Shannon Keith in piano solo;
Vocal soloists: Mika Ptacek, Aubrey Hawks, Laura Rankin, Khrystal Serrien, and
Hayden Penner.
BUSINESS ITEMS

The board tabled action on the school calendar till April.

The board approved an increase in building insurance coverage for EES in the
amount equal to new construction.

The board accepted the Stumps Foundation grant for Theme Day at EES.
-
Mr. Brungardt and Mr. Reid gave the board an overview of the Site Council
meetings and PLC meetings for this past year.

Mr. Arnhold updated the board on school finance and legislative bills that
are pending.

The EES construction project is on schedule.

The board was advised of the enrollment numbers based on our state audit in
February.

John Sherman gave the board information on the Smoky Hill Charitable
Foundation.
The board tabled action on additional board meetings.
